Snacks and staples for life when unprepared
Well shoot, I feel like I already screwed up. I planned to blog yesterday and even thought of the topic and took a photo but totally forgot to write my blog post.
Routine! This is not a part of my routine yet, and if I don't have a practice in my regular routine I am very sporadic and random in how I operate throughout the days and weeks. Something for me to focus and work on. Firstly, though, I need to decide what I want in my regular routine.
Anyhow, the point of this post was meant to be snacks and staples that I rely on when I am unprepared. Again, something not in my ROUTINE is food prep. I cook when I want to and don't when I don't. That's just how my life is right now. This works for me, right now in life, for 2 reasons.
1) My husband can eat like a bachelor just like me and we are fine fending for ourselves in the kitchen for piecemeal snack and mealtime.
2) We still have no children so no one is relying on me for food consistency or regular nutrient production.
Here are just a few (a very few) options that I like in my pantry for those 'just-in-case I'm not prepared' moments when I don't feel like cooking and I'm hungry NOW!
This is just a sample, but this was part of my snack time yesterday specifically.
When Publix has a sale, I like buying and having some Suja organic green juice on hand because I haven't been juicing much lately - read lack of routine.
A semi-regular snack staple lately has been sugar-free sunflower seed butter from Sunbutter combined with Nutiva organic Dark Chocolate Hazelnut Spread -- I literally just grab a teaspoon and scoop out a little hazelnut spread and then a little sun butter and eat straight up. A couple spoonfuls and I have satisfied both my sweet tooth and my body telling me I need a bit of protein.
To help balance stomach acid and continually improve my gut, I will take a shot of Fire Cider Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey Tonic. I love the black label bottle that has acv, lemons‚ oranges‚ onions‚ ginger‚ garlic‚ horseradish‚ habanero pepper and turmeric! It's spicy yet sweet and savory all in a one shot kick!
Lastly, if I am feeling I need a boost in my amino acids, I take a couple capsules of Vital Proteins grass-fed, pasture raised beef liver. You can buy the Beef Liver on Thrive Market or on Lucky Vitamin, or directly from Vital Proteins. Take a look at the label and see the whole amino acid profile = awesome! Not to mention it's high in Vitamin A, B12, Folate, Riboflavin, Zinc, Copper, and Choline!
